They just opened on February 20 and are offering a slew of great movies in March. The purpose of the Tribeca Cinema Kids club series, is to exposed children to a wide variety of film genres ranging from classical film favorites to foreign films to timeless animation shorts.

The best part of the series, is that after the screening, children are invited to participate in an exciting activity related to the movie. In addition, there are healthy and kid -friendly snacks  available.

Loveable Creature Features

10:30am            CLASSIC ANIMAL TRACKS and CREATURE FEATURES shorts collection, 42 min

Produced by the BBC and presented in conjunction with Cinemuse, CLASSIC ANIMAL TRACKS is like a jungle video jukebox! The world’s favorite songs by the original artists are combined with beautiful images and thoughtful captions on a variety of animals. Beaks, eyes, feathers and scales, lumps, bumps, legs and tails! CREATURE FEATURES is an outrageously fun collection of shorts highlighting the good, the bad, and sometimes the very ugly features of our favorite animals.

1:30pm              THE MUPPET MOVIE d. James Frawley, 95 min, 1979

When Kermit the Frog’s talents are discovered while singing in a swamp, he decides to test his luck in Hollywood. Along the way, he picks up the very funny, Fozzie the Bear and the very eager, Miss Piggy. THE MUPPET MOVIE was the first and arguable the best in a series of live-action musical features starring the Muppets. In 1992, the creator, Jim Henson was posthumously awarded the Courage of Conscience Award for being a "Humanitarian, muppeteer, producer and director of films for children that encourage tolerance, interracial values, equality and fair play.”

After each screening, construct your favorite animal puppet (or Muppet!!) in a special paperbag arts & crafts project.

Win Tickets to A Broadway Show courtesy of Applause-Tickets.com

Over the years, I have seen numerous Broadway shows, both great and not so great but I have to say that one of the best shows I have ever seen is the Lion King. It is a show that whether you are eight or eighty will enjoy, from the opening sequence when the animals/actors walk down the aisle in all their majestic and proud glory to the music to the incredible staging, it is a joyous two hours. The Lion King truly exemplifies what Broadway is all about.

For all you broadway lovers, Applause-Tickets.com! is giving you the chance to win two tickets to a Broadway show.

Here’s How You Can Win: On your personal blog or website, write a short post answering one of the following questions -
  • What is your favorite Broadway show (either one you have seen, or one you would like to see)?
  • What was the first musical you've ever seen (live or on tv)?
  • Why should you win a pair of Broadway tickets?
Contest Entry:

Winner will be decided at random and will be announced on the Applause-Tickets.com blog on March 17th, 2010.

GetGlovd (Review and Giveaway)

Congratulations to Natalia, winner of GetGlovd gloves.

Germs, germs, germs, H1N1 virus, flu shots, runny noses and lingering coughs, this is all anyone discusses  during the flu and cold season. As a mom, I am never without tissues, wipes and anti-bacterial sanitizers but during the winter months, I am especially vigilant about wiping down those germy hands.

Launched in December 2009, there is a new product, GetGlovd aimed at protecting you against germs and bacteria, anywhere you travel. The gloves are hypo-allergenic and are made out of anti-bacterial bamboo yarn.

What I like about GetGlovd:
  • Lightweight for times when you don't want to wear heavy gloves
  • Offers a layer of protection against germs and bacteria especially on subways and trains
  • Has a silky feel to them, definitely not scratchy against the skin
  • Provides an alternative to hand sanitizers which I find to be extremely drying
  • USDA Organic
What I didn't like about GetGlovd:
  • There are only three sizes. The pair I was sent just fit me.  Since I haven't had a chance to wash them, I am unsure if there will be shrinkage.
  • While the pricing for the adult's gloves seemed reasonable at $19.99 for what seems like another tool to help you combat germs and bacteria,  I would have to think hard about paying $14.99 for the kid's version. The price is not so much the issue as the fact that my daughter loses at least one pair of gloves each week.

Here is your chance to see if you like the GetGlovd gloves. One lucky NYC Single Mom Reviews reader will win a pair of Getgloved gloves. Simply visit the www.getglovd.com site and give me one fun fact about the gloves.

Disclosure: Getglovd gloves were sent for review purposes only.

C.O Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine
Winter is the time of chapped lips in which I am constantly blotting my lips with various lip balms. I love this stuff. The lip shine is not only mint-infused but has just a hint of color and keeps my lips moist. Did I mention the hint of color? I need it to at least feign that I have some make up on so it works on both levels.
Prices is $7.50 and comes in a range of colors

Disclosure: I received samples of the above products for review purposes only.

Be Heard and Sound Off - "Rethink What Matters"

Bare Escentuals, a product I love and use, is encouraging NYC Single Mom Reviews readers and women nationwide to shake up their foundation and sound off on topics that are more than just skin deep in their campaign, Rethink What Matters

Born from employees rethinking makeup itself – the beauty brand found looking good is not about using artificial gunk to cover imperfections, but about enhancing what you’ve got. In keeping with their wink-wink approach to marketing (Love Matte Campaign), Bare Escentuals will be unveiling thought-provoking taglines to help start honest conversations amongst girlfriends about what really matters. For instance, one reads “Rethink Going Bare in Public. BareMineral’s SPF15 Foundation feels completely weightless, but gives you all the flawless coverage you need. Like you are wearing nothing at all.”

Every week at RethinkWhatMatters.com, a new discussion topic will be featured with five questions for all to answer, share with their friends and have the chance win free products and other fantastic goodies. New topics and products will be featured weekly, posted each Friday.

Check it out and become part of the discussion.
