Wintuk - A Winter Wonderland 30% of Children's Tickets

Being a big fan Cirque Du Soleil, I have seen several shows here in New York and Las Vegas,  so I was thrilled to be offered tickets to see Wintuk.

Wintuk is about a little boy, Jamie who is in search of snow. Jamie lives in this cool city and encounters a whole host of interesting characters that run the gamut from acrobats to talking lamp posts as he goes on a quest to Wintuk to bring back snow

So how was it? . If you know anything about Cirque du Soleil, the shows  integrates acrobatics and a more than memorable sound track into the story lines. From the opening scene of wildly colored skateboarders, acrobatic bikers to dancing lamposts (mechanized, not real) to dancing dogs (as life like as you are going to get) to 30 foot walking birds to the memorable ending, the show was phenomenal.

My daughter (in my opinion, is  the hardest kid to keep amused) was memorized from beginning to end. Integrated with show is a lot of slapstick humour to keep the audience engaged. My daughter who apparently likes slapstick humour laughed (in one of those really loud laughs) at every pratfall.

And for us adults, you will thoroughly enjoy it.

Would I recommend it? A resounding, yes.

In fact, it is an event I am planning to a yearly family tradition, that's how engaged I was and trust me when it comes to family fare, there aren't that many shows that I am willing to sit through even if my daughter likes the show.

Fair warning, there is very little dialogue in the show as it is with all Cirque du Soleil show. If weren't for the lead character saying "where is the snow, I am looking for snow", you would not have an idea what was happening.

So if you have a chance to check out the show, Wintuk is offering a 30% discount for children's tickets.

Bathroom Tip: The intermission falls at the hour mark, so if you need to go to the bathroom, leave right before because the bathroom lines are horrible.

Recipe - Apple Crumb Pie

After apple picking last week, I was left with pounds of apples to deal with so I decided to make the simplest recipe I could from a new book on my shelf Taste of Home.
Let me say that I was impressed with how easy the recipe was to make and how great it turned, it was so delicious. The prep time was pretty simple as well. No more store bought pies for me.

Here is the recipe with a minor substitution.

Apple Crumb Pie
Prep: 15 minutes
Bake: 45-50 minutes

Ingredients
9 " Pastry Shell (feel free to make from scratch, ha! ha! one day)
6 Cups chopped, peeled apples (I used golden delicious since that what was left at the farm)
2 tablespoons butter, melted
2 tablespoons, sour cream (I used light sour cream)
4 teaspoons lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Topping:
1/2 Cup all -purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup cold butter

1. In a large bowl, mix ingredients and spoon into pastry shell.

2. For topping, combine flour and sugar in a bowl cut butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3. Sprinkle over filling.

4. Bake at 375 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until filling is bubbly and apples are tender.

Cool on wire rack.

8 servings
1 piece = 380 calories, 17 g fat, 30 mg cholesterol, 189mg sodium, 57g carbohydrate, 2 g fiber, 2 g protein
That is based on using sour cream but don't think using light sour cream is going to make that much difference.

Discounted Tickets Available for the Big Apple Circus

The Big Apple Circus is back for it's annual run. The show is a mixture of fun, acrobatics and slapstick comedy. It keeps everyone riveted to the action, even me. My daughter loves going and it has become an annual tradition for us. And who doesn't love clowns. The Big Apple Circus has two famous clowns, Bello with his Kid n Play do, America's Best Clown according to Time magazine and the loveable Grandma. One of the key advantages of the Big Apple Circus is that because of the size of the venue, no seat is a bad seat.

Performances of Bello is Back! run through January 18th under the Big Top at Damrosch Park in Lincoln Center.

Panties Test

I just love when the New York Times tries to be a beauty and fashion magazine. This article is actually helpful.
Marissa Jaret Winokur, you know her from the movie "Hairspray" and Dancing from the Stars test drove 5
panties for the dreaded visible panity lines. I appreciated that they did not use some size 0 stick- thin
celebrity because common, VPL is more likely to show on a woman who has little more butt. If my butt was flat,
I am sure I would not have to worry about VPL.

Sadly, the two most expensive panties, Gossamer the hip bikini at $17 (Yikes!) and Commando Cotton Bikini
at $28 (Double Yikes!!) were winners in the no VPL test.
Check out the panties at

Last week, I attended an K-Mart/Sears event with Jaclyn Smith and Celebrity Chef Art Smith (Oprah's chef) to talk about ideas and cooking tips for the holidays.
I have to say that the ideas they presented using Jaclyn Smith's Holiday collection looked great and gave me a lot of inspiration for my Christmas party. Using runners as placemats, ornaments on the table, not just on the tree, using ribbon for napkin rings. Over the years, for many of the items that are in my apartment now are from K-Mart. I think that they do offer quality at a great price for some items.

What I was most excited about was the trends they were presenting for 2010. Products won't be in the store for months but I was inspired especially since I am planning to redo my daughter's room next year.

The Children's Place Facebook Fan Page Leap Frog Giveaway

Every day from now until November 22, 2009, The Children's Place will be giving away a Leap Frog prize package.

All you have to do to become eligible is to become a fan of the Children's Place.

Random Drawings will be happening daily.

Personally, I love the Leapfrog. My daughter received the Leapfrog as a gift for her 4th birthday and she still uses it today. I truly did not think she would play with it as long as she did. It definitely helps if you are on a long trip or even a trip to the mall. The games are great and range from the fun to the educational.
